Lyrics

Forget You

Pat Aureli

Intro
V1:
I still remember that little gold locket swinging sexy round your neck
Blonde hair blowin', tears flowin', pretty blue eyes turned red
You said we were through at that Route 40 truck stop
Slammed the door an’ crushed my heart
When you threw your ring through the window of my car
The last thing you said...

Chorus:
Forget you__
I just need to
Forget you...
May take a little time to erase this tattoo… of… you…offa my mind
Ain't no drug or drink gonna help me get through
I just need to
Forget you...whoa-oh, oh-oh-oh__
Forget you (spoken)

(Break)

V2:
After that night Girl you dropped outta sight, I never knew the reason why
You weren't even showin', I had no way of knowin' that little baby boy was mine

Can’t believe he’s ten…says his prayers every night,

Prob’ly tells himself again and again...

Chorus:
Forget you__
I just need to
Forget you__

All I ever wanted was a little bit of time

For  games and birthdays and a Dad to call mine

Ain’t gonna miss someone I never knew__

I just need to
Forget you__
Yeah, yeah forget you (spoken)

Post Chorus:
Forget you
I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don’t wanna
Forget you__

Bridge:

Girl why can’t we all just start all over again
'Cause I could never in a million years

Tag
Forget you__

I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna

Forget you__(2x)

Story

This was a fun idea to write that took shape over many months. Marla is a perfectionist and I really enjoyed working with her in the songwriting process. We wanted to write a bit of a humorous idea about breaking up with someone or just a nice way to tell someone that you're over and out!  Done with the drama! Another amazing demo by mastermind Pete Sallis and Briana Tyson did the vocal on this and in my opinion, she killed it! She gives this the power of a JoDee Messina and the humor of Maddie & Tae!  An American Idol top 100 finalist, Briana is making her voice heard. She’s even performed with Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers! Definitely keep your eyes on her Nashville!

Lyrics

Peace Out

Pat Aureli and Marla Rubenstein

V1:

He used to meet me at the door with a kiss and a rose

But now I just let myself in and he’s let himself go

Wish I could look him in the eye but I can’t see

Over empty pizza boxes piled higher than his dirty laundry

Pre:

Got all dressed up and came over here

For Friday night sweatpants and stale warm beer…Really?

I can see we ain’t goin nowhere, so...

Chorus:

I’m gonna peace out

There’s nothin’ left to talk about

Goodbye don’t hafta be loud

Hey! Here I go now...

Gonna dip, gonna bail, gonna bounce

Peace out

V 2

My strapless dress looked too good to just go home

So I went drinkin him off my mind, just minding my own

When a beer breathin’ dude put his arm around my shoulder

I was wearin’ that margarita he knocked over

Pre:

Made my backside wave

An’ gave him a little closure

Ch:

I’m gonna peace out

There’s nothin’ left to talk about

Goodbye don’t hafta be loud

Hey! Here I go now...

Gonna dip, gonna bail, gonna bounce

Peace out___

Br:

I could make a list of excuses

But the truth is right here in these deu-ces...

Ch Breakdown:

I’m gonna peace out

There’s nothin’ left to talk about

Goodbye don’t hafta be loud

Hey! Whoa___

Final Ch:

I’m gonna peace out

There’s nothin’ left to talk about

Goodbye don’t hafta be loud

Hey! Here I go now

Gonna dip, gonna bail, gonna bounce

(Dip! Bail! Bounce!)

Gonna dip, gonna bail, gonna bounce

(Dip! Bail! Bounce!)

Peace Out!

Danny Myrick demo
Pat Aureli and Danny Myrick

Story

I attended my first SongTown writers retreat in the spring of 2015 and magically was paired up with Pro writer Danny Myrick, a brilliant and extremely gifted Nashville songwriter. He asked what did I want to write so I opened up my little song file on my phone and said a surfing song. I had earlier pitched the idea to another pro writer who wasn't feeling it, but Danny's eyes lit up and as fast as I could blurt out the idea for the song and some lyrics, he was off and running. I mean, this guy can write the pants off of anything. We wrote it in about an hour and it's still one of most favorite songs I've written. This song was pitched for Kenny Chesney's new album, but it didn't get cut...yet...

Lyrics

HANG TEN MY FRIEND

Pat Aureli and Danny Myrick ©2015

Tiny beachside tiki bar
An old gray beard talking scars
Pointing at a surfboard in the sand
Paint-spattered old jukebox
Nothin' but Marley, it never stops
Bikini girls in search of a perfect tan
I listened as he talked about flying and falling and Jesus and water
Smiling as he said…

(Chorus)

When you finally catch the wave you want you better ride it
Even if the tide gets a little too rough, don't fight it.
Just lose yourself out on that board
See what the ocean has in store
Open your mind find your peace within
Hang ten my friend

Well I rolled my eyes took another sip
Thought that dude's one helluva trip
But I guess it takes all kinds of kinds
The more I heard the more I thought maybe
He might not be sun-baked crazy
And maybe there's some treasure for me to find
So I ordered one more beer just so I could sit and hear
His gospel of the surfboard one more time

(Repeat Chorus)

(Solo)

(Bridge)
Just got the word he's gone
Sat down and wrote this song
A little truth to pass along

(Repeat Chorus)

May the thrill never end
Hang ten my friend

Lyrics

Shy Girl

Pat Aureli, Marty Dodson, Kate Smith

V1:

There’s a girl over there dancing on the bar

In her bare feet, playing air guitar

And all her rowdy friends are singing out loud

The only girl in here I’d like to get to know right now

CH1:

Is that shy girl

Sitting all alone

Stirring her drink

Checking her phone

She don’t have to try to stand out in a crowd

She’s not looking for attention

But she’s got mine now

Shy girl

V2:

I’d love to know your name and what your story is

And what’s a girl like you doing in a place like this

I wonder what you’re thinking inside that pretty head

And what you’d say to me if I walked up to you and said…

CH2:

Shy girl

Sitting all alone

Stirring your drink

Checking your phone

You don’t have to try to stand out in a crowd

You’re not looking for attention

But you’ve got mine now

Shy girl

BR:

I think I’ll take that empty bar stool

Slide it on over there next to you

And ask you a question I’ve had for a while

Is it true, the quiet ones have a wild side?

Story

This was a super fun write with Todd Dickinson and Marty Dodson...Ya gotta bring your "A" game to write with these guys. Summer night memories always seem to be fresh in your mind, don't they? Singer Kaci Bolls who cut the demo for us, knocked the vocal outta the park.

Lyrics

Grass Stains

Pat Aureli, Todd Dickinson and Marty Dodson ©2016

(V 1)

Well it was a one of a kind, blow your mind,

Remember forever kinda summertime.

Seventeen, walkin’ the line between,

A girl and a girl gone wild

And then Hot Damn!(Then I saw a hot man in)

Long hair and sun tan

Thinkin’ back I know I shoulda ran

From those baby blues, I looked straight into

Cause that's when the trouble began

All I’m sayin’ is a starlit meadow at night,

Ain't the place you wanna be wearin' white… ‘cause

(CHORUS)

Grass stains, are hard to explain,

When ya told your momma ya'll were at the Dairy Queen.

But his Watermelon Jolly Rancher kissable lips,

Sent chills from my toes to my fingertips...

I had a, countried up mid-summer nights dream

Til my momma went and spotted them fresh green

Grass Stains.

(BRIDGE)

I was over my head under the light of the moon,

On the ground in his arms that night

If I’da slipped on some plain old blue jeans

Everything woulda been alright

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(V2)

Well she grounded me

For three long weeks

But she went and washed away all the evidence

She said you know your daddy’d kill you

If he ever found out

But between you and me I know how them

Grass stains are hard to explain

Grass stains are hard to explain (Cold stop)

Rock it momma

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(TAG)

I still remember those damn things…

All them grass stains

Pete Sallis demo
Pat Aureli and Kevan Kirk

Story

This song came about through a collaboration with my Nashville buddy Kevan Kirk.  He is a super-talented writer and musician and all-around nice guy.  While writing this one, it's like we read each other's minds.  Lyrics and melody fell together like a hand in glove but then we went through an epic re-write over several months time to be sure every line was hitting home and that the melody was truly memorable like the girl in the song.  I love writing with Kevan and hope this is the first of many. The one, the only legendary Pete Sallis did a killer job on the track and his vocal could be on the radio. I feel like he nailed Tim McGraw on this one!

Lyrics

THIS OL’ SHIRT

Pat Aureli and Kevan Kirk

(V1)

I flew home on leave today

Nothin’ in my old room has changed

School books from senior year

Your picture on my mirror

An old glove, a baseball bat

Dog tags from my grand dad

I opened up that dresser drawer

Found what I was looking for

(Chorus)

This old shirt has seen it all

Those red lips near faded off

If it could talk what it would tell

It’s weathered but still fits me well

The cost was small for all it’s worth

Wearin’ memories in this ol’ shirt

(V2)

Seems like it was yesterday

Waitin’ on the Stones to hit the stage

Checking out the merchandise, I let you cut in line

We talked and laughed and rocked all night

Fell in love by the mornin’ light

One look I knew it never looked better than it did on you and…

(Chorus 2)

This old shirt has seen it all

(Bridge)

It watched you leave in the pouring rain

It's lived, it's loved, it's stained

(Chorus - Breakdown)

This old shirt has seen it all

Those red lips near faded off

Yeah__If it could talk what it would tell

It’s weathered but fits me well

The cost was small for all it’s worth

Wearin’ memories

Oh__ never-forget-you memories

In this ol’ shirt...In this ol’ shirt

Jilly Martin vocal demo
Pat Aureli and Michael Lusk

Story

This was an idea I had been kicking around for awhile and it was finally born when I had the chance to write with Michael Lusk in Nashville. Michael is a great guitar player, thinker and writer and we really had a great time writing together. This is one of many more in the pipeline. The inspiration for the song was from a famous female country artist going through some life-changing events and the confusion and chaos that she seemed to be going through.

Lyrics

CROSSROADS OF CRAZY

Pat Aureli and Michael Lusk ©2016

V1:
He turned my world upside down
Now storm clouds are all I see
Seems everywhere I turn,
Lightnin’ strikes in front of me
His same old story, same BS
About needin’ to be free
I feel like Alice lost in Wonderland

CH:
Standin’ at the crossroads of crazy
Not sure I'll ever know which way to turn
Left, right, up, down, yes, no, maybe
He left me jaded
Standin’ at the crossroads of crazy

V2:
I jumped back down that rabbit hole found a cat grinnin’ back at me
He had a notion to buy me a potion to see where things might lead
But that’s no better than what I had just bad in a different way
I ain’t Alice – and this ain’t Wonderland

CH: (repeat)

Bridge:
It don't matter how I got here
It’s just where I live right now
Ain't nothin’ but time will ever fix this mess
So if you’re trying to find me, here is my address...

CH: (Repeat)

Outro:
I know I'll make it
Standin’ at the crossroads of crazy

Story

I had the pleasure of writing this song with singer/songwriter Craig Cummings. We had a ton of fun writing and it's a song that dares you to dance. Women, cars and rock n' roll is what it's all about.  Pete Sallis did a killer job on the track and vocals. Thank you Pete. I hope ya'll enjoy it.

Lyrics

Helluva Ride

(Intro)

(V1)
Mustang red all curves and chrome
I just can't leave her alone
Muscle wheels that look so fine
She makes me feel wild and alive

(Pre-Chorus)
When I put my key in her ignition
And I push her pedal to the floor

(Chorus)
She makes me wanna drive, drive, drive
She's a helluva ride
Makes me wanna drive, drive, drive
She's a helluva ride, (instrumental break) a helluva ride

(V2)
Her pretty little motor runs red hot
Everybody wants what she's got
She's turbo-charged, a sexy six-speed
Perfectly tuned, you know what I mean

(Pre-Chorus)
When I shift her transmission
She sighs into a higher gear

(Repeat Chorus)

(Instrumental)

(Bridge)
Headlights, taillights teasin' you to catch her
Faster, faster, hear her laughter
You think you love her but you know it's lust
Burn some rubber
As she leaves you in the dust
Yeah, yeah, yeah___

(Final Chorus)
She makes me wanna drive, drive, drive

She’s a helluva ride

Makes me wanna drive, drive, drive___
She's a helluva ride___
She's a helluva ride
Yes she is, oh___

BONFIRE

Pat Aureli and Ray Celona 2015

(Verse)
It's Friday so let's sneak outta work early
We'll pick up some pretty girls so don't you worry
Grab some pizza and ice-cold beer
We're gonna have a party here
Park those trucks in a circle off the ol' dirt road
Pull up a lawn chair and take off a load

(Chorus)
Snappin', cracklin', shootin' higher
No need to be shy - Oh
At the bonfire
Buh-Buh-Buh Bonfire
Gonna kick back and watch it get higher

Bonfire
Buh-Buh-Buh Bonfire

(Verse)
Deep in the woods where nobody can hear us
Crank up some tunes and kick off the rust
Find yourself a cute little hottie
It's gonna get a whole lot loud and a little bit naughty
Drop them tailgates and grab a blanket
Pale moon's risin' but we ain't done yet

(Repeat Chorus)

(Solo)

(Bridge)
Smoke is sweet
Can't beat the heat
Don't need to call the FD
Blazin' ragin' Cajun hot
We've got ourselves one helluva’ party___

(Repeat Chorus+)
Snappin', cracklin', shootin' higher
No need to be shy - Oh
At the bonfire
Buh-Buh-Buh Bonfire

Story

This song is about sacrificing one's freedom and spirit for the material things and the American dream, but realizing that you've made a terrible mistake. Everyone can relate to this at one time or another in their lives.

Lyrics

FOR SALE
By Pat Aureli ©2001

Sell the three-bedroom ranch house
With the paved driveway and picket fence
Sell the dining room furniture
‘Cause none of it makes any sense

Sell the wide-screen TV
And that ol’ entertainment center
Sell the four-poster bed
And that ugly bedspread from your mother

‘Cause I sold my soul
When I sold my motorcycle
Yeah, I lost my old friend
With a tiny ad in the classified

And how I miss that ride
And all her shiny chrome
Now everything’s for sale
Yeah, everything I own
And all I know is
I’ve gotta get that bike back home

I’m gonna sell everything that doesn’t move
I’m gonna sell everything you talked me into
I’m gonna sell everything I just can’t use
‘Cause I sold my soul
When I sold my motorcycle

Yeah, I lost my old friend
With a tiny ad in the classified
And how I miss that ride
And all her shiny chrome
Now everything’s for sale
Yeah, everything I own
And all I know is
I’ve gotta get that bike back home

Sell that old Ford pick-up truck
You know it always ran kind of rough
Sell the baseball cards and racing stuff
Sittin’ on the shelf collectin’ dust

Sell the washer and dryer
The stove and refrigerator
Sell the lawnmower and power tools
You know I won’t need them later

‘Cause I sold my soul
When I sold my motorcycle

Story

This song came from a melancholy reflection on people who go through life looking for the right one but who have yet to find that person.

Lyrics

WHEN I FIND YOU  By Pat Aureli and Sara Leila Martin

So many times
Thought I’d found the right one
But life’s toughest lesson
Is love leaves you cryin’
Sending you back to where you started
Walking around with the broken-hearted

When I find you
The stars will shine
The earth will move
But we’ll stand still in time
When I find you
My heart will know
A love so true
It will never let go

So many dreams will fade
Yet some will live on
And those hearts that never stayed
May still be out there searching
Sent back to where they started
Walking around with the broken-hearted

When I find you
The stars will shine
The earth will move
But we’ll stand still in time
When I find you
My heart will know
A love so true
It will never let go

How long I will have waited
To be held in your arms
Won’t matter to me
Your love is all I need…

When I find you…
The stars will shine
The earth will move
But we’ll stand still in time
When I find you
My heart will know
A love so true
It will never let go
When I find you…
I will never let go...

Story

This instrumental evolved from thinking about what it would be like to be flying through the bluest of skies with puffy little clouds stretching out for miles and the warmth of the sun and the crisp, fresh breeze on your face.  Eagles definitely have a very cool perspective. This is a positive song with building notes of hope.  Someone told me they would love to figure skate to this song and I would love to see that and experience the joy of music through the power and grace of ice-skating.

Pat Aureli

Story

This song came out when thinking about what would happen if one of those little plastic ballerinas on a spring broke free from her jewelry box perch and escaped to explore the world.  Weird, I know, but that was the idea.  In the music I heard the timidity she might feel as she left the box that she's known forever, and then the building excitement of her heartbeat and (the rapid Bourree) dance steps as she flits across the pavement.  Sadly, at the end, you will hear her return to the box but she now has a soul that yearns for more.

Pat Aureli

Story

I guess I had Transformers on my mind...This industrial instrumental track is evocative of a dingy, dusty garage permeated by a cloud of grease where the robotic machines flicker to life while the humans are away.
